Pro-Marriage-Equality Pressler Contributes to Anti-Gay-Marriage Senator Heineman

I appreciate former Senator Larry Pressler's public support for marriage equality. Now I need to ask him to put his money where his mouth is... and not put that money where his mouth isn't.

During the 2012 election, Pressler appears to have made just one contribution to a South Dakota candidate: $250 to State Senator Phyllis Heineman (R-13/Sioux Falls). Alas, as Representative in 2005, Heineman voted in favor of writing a gay-marriage ban into South Dakota's Constitution. She has a list of other regressive votes we could cite, but the focus here is gay marriage.

Mr. Pressler, your money helped elect a woman who works against the social equality you advocate. I hope you will not make that same mistake in 2014.

Anyone who would make their entire decision on one issue would be narrow minded.

I wonder how much money the Heineman family gave to Pressler over the years? Politicians support other politicians who have supported them.

If donors only gave to people who agreed with them on everything, their would be no donors.

Right, Troy. So now Mr. Pressler will have to decide whether this issue is important enough to him to (1) give Phyllis a call and ask her to change her mind and (2) to reduce the amount he gives to support her future opposition to marriage equality.
